File Extension DAA
File extension DAA is a proprietary file format that is used and developed by PowerISO Computing Inc. mainly for disk image files. The initials DAA stand for Direct Access Archive. The format supports features like password protection, compression and file splitting properties. This means that files can be split into multiple volumes, a property, which is also supported by certain compression formats like .RAR. This file format can be opened and viewed by PowerISO and MagicISO applications.

The main use of the program is to encrypt and compress DVD/CD image files, although it can still be used to serve other purposes. With the PowerISO program a user is able to view the file contained in the container without necessarily having to uncompress the file. Since the file format is proprietary, programs that are popularly used to mount disk images like Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120% cannot be used to mount file extension DAA since these applications do not support the DAA images.

Thus, if one is looking to uncompress files bearing the DAA file extension it is important that they have the PowerISO application installed. The application also makes use of the drag-and-drop user interface and also includes copy/paste option, for data originating from the clipboard. Additionally, the application is also able to support shell integration, which is essentially a command line scripting interface.

However, it is not possible to program third party implementation for the writing and reading file extension DAA, since information about the format for users to be able to carry this out is currently not available. Binary-only applications for limited versions for Linux and Windows can be found on the PowerISO website. Some of the advantages of this file format are that users are able to easily and directly mount the format to a BIN or an ISO file. Users can also password protect the files contained in the DAA container, the format can be split into smaller multiple files.

The downside to using file extension DAA is that, since it is a proprietary file format its use is limited to certain applications. Therefore, icannot be read by other free existing applications, for example, AcetoneISO. Thus, like earlier stated it is vitally important that users have PowerISO installed so as to be able to open files with this format.
